Exploring the allure of "unusable materials" to create beautiful products

Oyama Seizai, based in Toyama Prefecture, proposes a life with wood and its charms. They have launched the brand "RetRe" in collaboration with designer Yoshiki Yamazaki. The brand name embodies the desire to regenerate discarded wood into tools and to foster the restoration of satoyama through their activities. Their newly focused material is "natural oak with insect damage" from Toyama Prefecture. Unlike ordinary lumber, it is characterized by insect-eaten marks and black stripes caused by fungi.

The vases, "Tsutsu" and "Bobbin," are shaped by turning on a lathe, exuding unique expressions. They are equipped with small glass tubes in the body, allowing for the arrangement of flowers.
