An Exhibition Focusing on "Works," "Space," and "Time"
The theme of the solo exhibition "nendo 3/3," which presents three exhibitions consecutively for three weeks each, is design born from "the relationship between objects and their surroundings."
"nendo 1/3: People, Objects, Gaps," starting Friday, September 11th, will showcase 16 designs inspired by the techniques of artisans from across Japan. This is a touring exhibition of "colorful shadows," held at the "Cool Japan Design Gallery" at the 2015 Milan Expo. To emphasize the subtle differences in expression that can only be created by human hands, all works are unified in a single black color. The exhibition layout, featuring a long, narrow display table measuring 200mm wide and 33m in length, guides visitors while gently connecting the rooms.
"nendo 2/3: Room, Objects, Gaps," beginning Tuesday, October 6th, will debut a collection of small tables called "border tables," derived from the "edges" of space. Instead of placing individually designed furniture within a space, this is an attempt to fill the gaps between them by considering furniture design from the perspective of the space itself. Designs created as a result of observing the complex spatial characteristics of the gallery and considering how to utilize them will be presented.
"nendo 3/3: Objects, Objects, Gaps," commencing Friday, October 30th, will feature 12 works designed with a focus on the relationships between objects. This includes the "nest shelf," which hides another object within the gaps of an object, to be presented at the London Design Festival in September 2015, as well as "scissors" and "press lamp," which give function to object gaps, "overflow," born from object gaps, and "rain bottle," which considers the gaps revealed by finely categorizing a single object.
The spatial arrangement for the three exhibitions not only complements the exhibited works but also draws out the characteristics of the space through different approaches, allowing visitors to perceive a single message by experiencing the three exhibitions consecutively.
Additionally, for six days starting Friday, September 11th, during the "nendo 3/3" period, an exhibition offering a glimpse into the world of the "TAG Heuer Carrera Time Machine by nendo" watch, a collaboration between TAG Heuer and nendo limited to 250 units worldwide, will be held on the B1 floor of GYRE, preceding its release.
Furthermore, starting Friday, September 18th, the shop for "by | n," the original brand by Seibu Sogo and nendo, which is being revamped this autumn, will be unveiled ahead of time on the B1 floor of GYRE.
