The 52nd Exhibition: "Graphic Design in Japan 2015" Opens


To commemorate the release of the 2015 edition of the annual yearbook "Graphic Design in Japan," published by the Graphic Designers Association of Japan (JAGDA) since 1981, an exhibition titled "Graphic Design in Japan 2015" is being held at Tokyo Midtown Design Hub until August 5th (Wednesday). The exhibition showcases approximately 300 works, selected from the yearbook, presented through physical pieces and digital displays.

The Graphic Designers Association of Japan (JAGDA) was founded in 1978, spearheaded by the late Yusaku Kamekura, who laid the foundation for post-war Japanese graphic design and created numerous masterpieces, including the Tokyo Olympics poster. Today, it stands as Japan's sole nationwide organization for graphic designers, boasting approximately 3,000 members.

JAGDA Award 2015 Winner: Environmental/Spatial Design "One-off Design"





The 52nd exhibition at Tokyo Midtown Design Hub, "Graphic Design in Japan 2015," which began on June 19th, offers an in-depth look at the current state of Japanese graphic design, highly acclaimed worldwide. The exhibition features a diverse range of works, from everyday雑貨 (zakka, miscellaneous goods) to books, product packaging, symbols, logos, posters, websites, videos, and even environmental and shop space designs.

Additionally, talk events featuring graphic designers and art directors will be held during the exhibition period. Event details will be posted periodically on the Design Hub's website (http://designhub.jp/).

The annual yearbook "Graphic Design in Japan 2015," released on June 20th, features approximately 600 works (1,500 images) that have passed a rigorous selection process across various categories: posters, general graphics, CI/VI/symbols/logos/typefaces, book/editorial, packaging, newspaper/magazine advertisements, environmental/spatial design, interactive design, video, and composite works. It is a highly practical design yearbook, not only showcasing the works but also serving as a valuable database.
