Modern vessels that convey warmth within their dignified forms
An exhibition of Misako Tanaka, a ceramic artist based in Kyoto, titled "Misako Tanaka Exhibition," is being held at Mid-Century MODERN for the first time in about a year.
Her representative work, "Shizukana Sora" (Quiet Sky), is a piece that combines the contrasting textures of thin, light porcelain and weighty glass, creating a sense of wonder. Its modern aesthetic, exuding warmth within a sharp and delicate impression, has garnered attention from discerning collectors both in Japan and abroad.
In 2009, she received an Excellence Award at the "Takaoka Craft Competition." The award citation praised her sincerity in craftsmanship, stating, "She has dedicated herself to her life's work of creating vessels from glass and porcelain, refining them into tools needed by contemporary people. In particular, her 'Shizukana Sora' series showcases not only its usability but also the enhanced beauty achieved by combining two disparate materials, revealing her evolutionary journey."
The current "Misako Tanaka Exhibition" features new pieces from the "Shizukana Sora" series, each possessing a radiant form worthy of being a centerpiece, available for exhibition and sale.
