Fitbit: Founded for a Healthy, Active Life
Fitbit, founded in 2007 on the West Coast of the United States, develops fitness wearable devices. The company's concept is to help users achieve their fitness goals by tracking various activity data, enabling them to lead healthier and more active lives. The new Fitbit Charge HR™ utilizes cutting-edge technology to record not only heart rate but also steps, distance, floors climbed, and calories burned.
At the experience event, fitness experts from various fields were invited to participate in programs focused on how to use the Fitbit Charge HR™ and maintain a healthy lifestyle. How will the Fitbit Charge HR™ support our health improvement? We will introduce three key features, along with expert advice.
Personal Data to Motivate Your Workouts
The most significant feature of the Fitbit Charge HR™ is its ability to continuously and automatically measure heart rate throughout the day simply by wearing it on your wrist. Data is wirelessly uploaded in real-time to your PC or smartphone, and can be easily viewed and analyzed through the app or dashboard, making it exceptionally user-friendly.
Your heart rate constantly changes as you walk or climb stairs in daily life. During exercise, such as running or cycling, your heart rate increases significantly. Maintaining your heart rate between 50-69% of your maximum heart rate is key to burning fat, according to pro fitness instructor Go Takahashi. He explained that using muscles increases heart rate, and keeping it at a certain level initiates fat burning.
Furthermore, observing heart rate fluctuations during exercise can enhance training endurance and motivation. For gentler activities like yoga or meditation, seeing your heart rate stabilize can provide data on relaxation effects. On the second morning of the experience program, a "Wake Up Your Body Yoga" session was led by yoga instructor Kayo Mori. The key was to measure heart rate before and after the lesson, with a calmer heart rate indicating a refreshing effect.

Master Your Calorie Burn for Healthy Eating Habits
A healthy diet leads to a healthy life. Use the Fitbit Charge HR™ to calculate your daily calorie expenditure, set meal plans based on your activity levels, and achieve your weight maintenance or diet goals. For the Japanese market, the app includes a database of 100,000 familiar Japanese dishes, from miso soup to kaiseki cuisine, with their calorie and nutritional values (with more to be added). By setting a target weight and completion date, and logging your daily meals, you can visualize calorie intake versus expenditure on a graph, making your progress towards your goals immediately clear.
The Key to Health: Sleep Quality
In addition to exercise, sleep is also considered crucial for health management. By tracking exercise, diet, and sleep with the Fitbit Charge HR, you can analyze and improve your overall health. Wearing the device to bed allows it to record your sleep cycles, and you can view your sleep chart on the app upon waking. The sleep chart provides insights into the number of times you woke up and the depth of your sleep.
Here are some tips for achieving better sleep, as shared by occupational therapist Yohei Sugawara. First, avoid bringing anything unrelated to sleep, such as smartphones or books, into bed. If you can't sleep, don't force yourself to sleep, and don't go to bed if you're not sleepy. It's more important to align your wake-up time, even if your bedtime varies, to regulate your body's rhythm. Recommended sleep-enhancing practices include cooling the head while warming the neck, sacrum, and ankles; taking a bath an hour before bed; and using warm, dim lighting in the evening.
Woody Scal, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) of Fitbit's U.S. headquarters, who visited Japan for the event, shared his thoughts on Fitbit: "The inspiration for starting the brand came in 2006 when our founder, James Park, bought a Nintendo Wii. He was impressed by the Wii controller's ability to sense subtle human movements and envisioned applying that technology to fitness, leading him to found Fitbit. However, it's not just about incorporating high technology; our products must also be simple and easy to use. Our mission is to help customers lead healthier, more active lives with Fitbit products."
In our busy lives, we often lack time for health management. With the Fitbit Charge HR™, you can easily and enjoyably digitize your daily rhythms and achieve a healthier lifestyle.
