An Event to Deeply Explore Girard's Fantastical and Magical World

Alexander Girard, though educated as an architect, was one of the 20th century's most prominent designers, active in all fields including interior design, furniture design, textile design, and exhibition design.

Invited to Herman Miller by Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson, he established the textile division in 1952 and served as its design director until 1973. During this time, Girard created over 300 works utilizing vibrant colors, geometric patterns, and a humorous touch, rapidly elevating his fame not only with Herman Miller but also through the total design of New York's restaurant "La Fonda del Sol" and Braniff Airways.

An Opportunity to Encounter an Unparalleled Body of Work

This exhibition will feature textiles, accessories, and furniture carefully selected from the Herman Miller archives. Furthermore, new Girard furniture and silkscreen panels will be available, alongside limited-edition 5th-anniversary items from Eames and Nelson upholstered with Maharam textiles designed by Girard. A wide range of designs and products officially approved by the Girard Foundation will also be available for purchase.

During the exhibition period, the Herman Miller Store will offer a special Girard-themed coffee service and hold a giveaway campaign with a chance to win Herman Miller products.

Additionally, "GIRARD CONTINUED," an exhibition of works by Girard's son Marshall and grandchildren Kori and Alicia, will be held at "CURATOR'S CUBE" (http://curatorscube.com/), opened by Landscape Products in Toranomon, from Saturday, October 24th to Sunday, November 8th.
