Over 200 New Works Unveiled in a Grand Space

The "nendo works 2014-2015" exhibition, held from April 14th to 19th, showcased over 200 new works from 34 collections created for 21 brands, both domestic and international, along with pieces presented for the first time in Europe. Here, we introduce the works for Glas Italia that garnered particular attention.

The "soft" collection for Glas Italia, which embodies glass that defies the conventional image of the material, comprises three low tables. Each is a box-like form constructed from five pieces of frosted glass. The joints where the glass pieces meet are created by bonding 45-degree angled edges, with vibrant colors printed onto these cut surfaces.

The gradient transitions from purple to red, orange to yellow, and blue to purple. Furthermore, this color is printed onto the back of the frosted glass, appearing to bleed onto the flat surface, creating a natural and soft impression with edges that seem to diffuse.

The "pair" collection for Glas Italia is designed with the image of two pieces of furniture, made from frosted smoked glass, gradually overlapping. The overlapping sections use transparent glass, and the smoked and transparent glass are bonded only at the edges, showcasing the brand's exceptional cutting and bonding techniques.

Other works with Glas Italia included the dining table "clear shadow" with a two-tiered glass top. Also drawing attention were the prototype "offset-frame chair" for the latest concept "Amenity Chair" in collaboration with Kokuyo Furniture; "stream," a new design for Asahi Woodtec's "LiveNatural Premium"; "seven doors," a new collection of seven doors with Abe Kogyo, a wooden door manufacturer celebrating its 70th anniversary; and the suitcase "360" for Proteca, a brand for which nendo serves as creative director. The pop-up shop for "by | n," an original brand co-developed by nendo and Seibu/Sogo, was also well-received.
