Debut of the Third Collaboration: An Exquisite Collection of Boxes
The "Skies and Beyond" collection, featuring elegant boxes crafted from leather and suede, marks the third collaboration between Bottega Veneta and Nancy Lorenz, following the "Botanical" collection in 2002 and the "Lunar Landscapes" collection in 2003. Each box, individually numbered, was exhibited at Bottega Veneta boutiques during the Salone del Mobile.Milano.
Creative Director Tomas Maier commented, "I have long admired Nancy Lorenz's work, and felt it was time to collaborate with her again for the long-awaited third collection. Lorenz's refined technique, rich textures, and artistic sensibility are truly remarkable. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to work with her once more on this unique project."
Lorenz is a highly skilled artist whose work is informed by a deep understanding of post-war abstract art and a respect for the craftsmanship and material mastery cultivated by traditional Asian arts. She lived in Tokyo for approximately five years, absorbing inspiration for her art from Japanese techniques such as mother-of-pearl inlay (raden) and lacquerwork, as well as the use of gold leaf.
After graduating from the University of Michigan and Tyler School of Art, Lorenz received a prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in 1998. Since 2008, she has participated in the Kilkenny Arts Festival's artist-in-residence program in Ireland every other year. Her works are held in numerous public and private collections, and she has exhibited internationally. Lorenz is currently based in New York, where she continues her artistic practice.
Each "Skies and Beyond" box is both a work of art and a functional item for storing letters, photographs, or jewelry. Measuring 28cm wide x 20cm deep x 10.5cm high, the boxes feature wooden structures meticulously covered in leather or suede. Accented with materials such as box silver, white gold, blackened silver, palladium, gold leaf, and moon gold, they possess a radiant, mystical beauty and a captivating tactile quality.
The "Skies and Beyond" boxes can be purchased by phone through Bottega Veneta's personal shopping service.
