Presentation at the Highly Acclaimed Spazio Rossana Orlandi

In the past three years, Karimoku New Standard has held independent exhibitions in contemporary galleries and apartment-style galleries around the city. This year, their presentation is located within the Spazio Rossana Orlandi gallery.

This is one of the most talked-about venues in the city, where owner Rossana Orlandi consistently discovers and proposes new ways of approaching design. For example, Dutch designer Piet Hein Eek gained significant attention for his presentation here, leading to his current success. Shop owners, distributors, and media representatives from around the world gather in search of encounters with exceptional designers and works, making the venue bustling with people during Salone. It's incredibly vibrant.

Karimoku New Standard is presenting a curated selection of items, primarily those that have moved from prototype to production and are slated for European release, alongside their existing collection.

New Items to Be Rolled Out in Japan

Here, we introduce the new additions to our product lineup.

The "A-FRAME DESK / A-FRAME TABLE," designed by Spanish designer Tomás Alonso, is a simple desk with detachable legs. The removed legs can be stored flat, making it easy to stow away when not in use. It's a proposal for contemporary furniture suited to the typical urban living environment of "living in compact spaces."

"SOFT TRIANGLE" is designed by the Swedish design unit TAF. This coffee table features three legs and a gently curved tabletop. It is crafted by laminating small pieces of wood from small-diameter trees and then carving them to create a substantial volume.

The "COLOUR WOOD DINING" is designed by the Dutch design unit Scholten & Baijings. This dining table is a new addition to the COLOUR WOOD series of side tables. It reconsiders the use of small-diameter hardwood, which was previously underutilized, and pursues forms that naturally emerge from this material, applying traditional woodworking techniques. Notably, the dot pattern on the tabletop offers a contemporary expression where the wood grain is visible through the finish.

The "COLOUR BIN" is designed by the Dutch design unit Scholten & Baijings. This series of containers is formed by assembling small-diameter wood pieces into a circular shape. Available in three sizes, each is finished with the designers' signature color palette, including semi-transparent and fluorescent hues. The range of sizes allows for selection based on intended use.

A Special Breakfast Event Held at a Lambrate Studio

Another venue is located in the Lambrate district, slightly north of Milan's city center. This area has become a focal point in recent years, with numerous buzzworthy exhibitions, particularly from emerging designers, making it a "must-visit" district during Milan Salone.

In collaboration with Arabeschi di Latte, an all-female design unit focused on food, and Fortino Editions, an independent publisher based in Miami that produces and sells art and design books, they have created a lounge space titled "Kitchen Library." The venue is Arabeschi di Latte's studio. While not a large space, it has high ceilings and a comfortable atmosphere with an open kitchen. Karimoku New Standard furniture is styled here to create a lounge area. Fortino Editions curates a library by selecting books based on multiple keywords. Visitors leave sticky notes on pages they find interesting, marking their presence. The aim is for people to chat, enjoy tea, and perhaps find themselves relaxing on Karimoku New Standard furniture while flipping through books.

Additionally, there is a solo exhibition by Swiss-based design unit BIG-GAME, which has participated since the brand's inception.
Tomás Alonso's "A-FRAME TABLE" and TAF's "SOFT TRIANGLE" have been selected and are exhibited in "NOMADISMI," curated by Li Edelkoort of Trend Union. Furthermore, Scholten & Baijings, who design items for Karimoku New Standard, have been selected for "MEET DESIGN," curated by the Italian design magazine CASA DA ABITARE at the Triennale Museum, a cultural hub and cherished spot for Milanese residents. Their selected Karimoku New Standard items are on display.

In its fourth year, Karimoku New Standard is being showcased in various forms across the city. This new brand, born from a Japanese wooden furniture manufacturer, was virtually unknown when it first exhibited at Milan Salone in 2010. Gradually, it seems to have become a anticipated part of the Milan Salone experience.
