A Hybrid of Traditional Tsugaru Lacquerware and Woodworking Techniques
The textured wood surface, created using "uzukuri," a traditional Japanese woodworking technique, is layered with three colors of paint like strata. After further texturing, the surface is polished. This polishing reveals a wood grain pattern composed of three colors on the smoothed, flat surfaces.
Inspired by Tsugaru lacquerware, a traditional craft from Aomori, Japan, this new furniture series "ColoRing" is born from a novel technique that blends it with the traditional "uzukuri" woodworking method. In collaboration with Japanese paint manufacturer Porter's Paints, the series utilizes leftover paint from construction applications.
In addition to the "ColoRing" furniture series, Milan Salone will also feature "UDUKURI," one of the Flat Tables series sold by Established & Sons, at "Established & Sons LIMITED / Milan 2013."
