The "Everyday" Captured by Photographer Shin Suzuki
This marks the second year KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD has exhibited. This year, under the theme "What is the value of things that exist in our daily lives?", KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD, which continues to create furniture that accompanies everyday life, collaborated with photographer Shin Suzuki, who captures the essence of the everyday.

An Exhibition of Furniture in New Forms to Stimulate the Senses
At the contemporary art gallery "SUZY SHAMMAH" in Milan, dozens of magnified weeds, the corners of sofas worn by cats' claws, peculiar sights glimpsed on the street, water droplets on windows, friends, family… Photos of various sizes were displayed on the walls, surrounding the 2011 new prototype and 2010 collection pieces from KARIMOKU NEW STANDARD.
The works, calmly presented by Shin Suzuki, who photographs hundreds of images daily as his life's work, leave room for the viewer's free interpretation.
The space and time prompt reflection on how the subjects in the photographs might link to our own lives, or remind us of the fleeting nature of memory, and how easily we forget what is important.
And then, the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11th. Places reduced to rubble, furniture swept away and collapsed – these too exist there, calmly, as a culmination of his observations of everyday life.
For the 2011 prototypes on display, Belgian designer SYLVAIN WILLENZ presented the "HOMERUN series." The HOMERUN items are characterized by bold, rounded shapes inspired by nostalgic animation, combining calculated simplicity with a perfect finish achieved through advanced technology.
Additionally, the "CASTOR series" by Swiss design team BIG-GAME consists of stools, benches, and shelves designed to effectively utilize small-diameter timber. Named after the beaver, this series features details reminiscent of a beaver's gnaw marks on wood.
The prototypes also appeal with their design and functionality, truly questioning "What is the value of things that exist in our daily lives?"
