Introducing the Airblade™ Hand Dryer Series, Dyson's First B2B Item

James Dyson on New Products and R&D

Dyson has announced three models in its first B2B (business-to-business) product line, the "Dyson Airblade™ Hand Dryer Series," along with its latest canister vacuum, the "DC63." The "DC63" was released on Thursday, April 17th, primarily through the Dyson online store and major electronics retailers nationwide.

Faucet and Hand Dryer in One!

The three models in the newly announced "Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer Series" are equipped with the company's proprietary "Dyson Digital Motor V4," a brushless DC motor.

The "Dyson Airblade Tap Hand Dryer," which allows users to wash and dry their hands without leaving the sink, features an infrared sensor that accurately detects hand position. Not only does water automatically dispense from the faucet pipe, but the Dyson Digital Motor V4 activates when hands are brought close to the front.

Two thin pipes on the faucet emit high-speed air, scraping water droplets from the hands. Drying takes a mere 12 seconds.

The compact "Dyson Airblade V Hand Dryer" uses two high-speed air streams, blown from a V-shaped nozzle at a 115-degree angle, to reach every corner of the hands and scrape away water droplets. This model can dry hands in just 10 seconds.

The "Dyson Airblade dB Hand Dryer," with its orthodox design, has obtained HACCP certification for hygiene management, ensuring safe use in the food and beverage industry. This model also dries hands in 10 seconds.

Clean Air Blown in a Sheet

James Dyson, who visited Japan for this announcement, expressed significant dissatisfaction with conventional hand dryers. "They take a long time to dry hands, are noisy, not very hygienic, and consume a lot of power. So, at Dyson, we conceived of a way to instantly scrape water droplets from the hand's surface using air blown in a sheet," he explained.

The Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer is also revolutionary in terms of hygiene. According to Alex Knox of Dyson, "By passing air through a HEPA filter (a high-performance filter used to remove fine dust and bacteria from the air), we remove 99.9% of bacteria as small as 0.1 microns." He added confidently, "The air emitted by the Airblade is more hygienic than the air we breathe in a restroom."

We use hand dryers daily in places like airports and shopping centers. Dyson's commitment to hygiene is highly commendable.

This development involved a three-year research period by a 125-person Dyson engineering team and an investment of £40 million (approximately 6.8 billion yen), resulting in Dyson's first B2B product.

James Dyson stated, "Currently, Dyson employs 1,700 engineers worldwide, with over half based in the UK. Engineers constitute more than one-third of our entire workforce, and we plan to double the size of our UK R&D center, hiring twice the current number of engineers."

DC63 Captures 0.5 Micron Dust

Announced on the same day as the Dyson Airblade Hand Dryer, the canister vacuum cleaner "DC63" is the latest model developed to capture up to 40% more dust than conventional vacuum cleaners.

Dyson engineers have improved cyclone technology to capture more microscopic particles, as small as 0.5 microns (one-tenth the diameter of a human hair). The Dyson Digital Motor V4, developed over seven years, is one of the world's smallest integrated 1150W motors, spinning five times faster than an F1 car engine, delivering powerful performance in a compact size.

The cleaner head is designed to agitate dust from the floor surface for more effective removal. Stiff nylon bristles capture debris from carpets and rugs, while fine, conductive carbon fiber brushes pick up dust from hard floors. The "DC63" was released nationwide on Thursday, April 17th, through electronics retailers and other outlets.
