The Appeal of Sony's 4K TV "BRAVIA X9200A"

When considering a TV replacement, many are looking at screens larger than 50 inches. The star of this trend is the 4K TV, which employs a 4K resolution panel (horizontal 3840 x vertical 2160), boasting approximately four times the pixel count of Full HD (horizontal 1920 x vertical 1080). Sony's "BRAVIA X9200A" series, their first 4K TV for general households, has arrived, and its specifications are drawing attention.

What TV Will You Watch Next Year's Brazil World Cup On?

Many people likely think, "I want a large-screen TV, but my living room is too small..." The Sony 4K TV "BRAVIA X9200A" series, introduced here, is characterized by a shorter optimal viewing distance and wider viewing angle compared to conventional Full HD TVs. For the 55-inch model "KD-55X9200A," the optimal viewing distance is a mere "approximately 1.5 meters," and even at this distance, you can enjoy powerful, detailed images without worrying about visual noise.

Beyond picture quality, the sound is also a key feature, with large side speakers mounted on both sides of the TV. A tweeter is positioned in the center front, flanked by passive radiators and woofers above and below, with two subwoofers housed in the rear.

While the actual broadcast of 4K content is expected to begin in fiscal year 2014, the "X9200A" series upscales Full HD content to 4K for display. Currently, you can enjoy "Full HD content with high-quality visuals on a large screen."

Sony's Distinctive, Meticulous Design Also Captures Attention

As the era of true 4K approaches, companies are focusing on enhancing video processing technologies and developing 4K-compatible LSIs. Sony, too, is placing emphasis on design. The "X9200A" series adopts the design concept of "Sense of Quartz" and, with the theme "The best picture and sound, in a single pane of glass," features an OptiContrast Panel with a single sheet of glass. The six circular speaker elements strongly assert the display's presence while contributing to a simple, beautiful design. Furthermore, the new approach of conveying a "dialogue" between the user and the TV through changes in light, emitted by the LED illumination within the "Intelligent Core," is noteworthy.

Currently, Sony's special website for its 4K-compatible LCD TV "BRAVIA" (http://www.sony.jp/bravia/4k/index.html) features a commercial with Kazumasa Oda providing music, based on the concept "Japanese DNA that Values Beauty," as well as discussions between AV critic Masashi Asakura and engineers, and photographer Kazuyoshi Miyoshi's experiences with 4K photography.

At Sony Building's 4th-floor showroom (TV) in Ginza, the BRAVIA is on display. Until Sunday, September 1st, the 8th-floor OPUS is screening 4K footage as part of the "46th Sony Aquarium" (http://www.sonybuilding.jp/event/aqua/movie/).
