The Biggest Appeal of "fitbit": Wireless Connection via Bluetooth® 4.0
Currently available at SoftBank SELECTION stores and the SoftBank SELECTION online shop (http://www.softbankselection.jp/) are the basic model "fitbit zip," which records steps, distance, and calories burned, and the high-performance model "fitbit one," which additionally records sleep cycles and floors climbed. Each comes in different shapes and color variations, allowing you to choose your preferred type.
The greatest appeal of "fitbit," a digital gadget for "lifelogging"—recording human life, actions, and experiences as digital data such as video, audio, and location information—is its wireless connection to iPhone and iPad via Bluetooth® 4.0. It's incredibly easy to sync your steps before sleep and your sleep data upon waking.
The higher-end "fitbit one" comes with a clip holder for the device and a wristband with a pocket to hold it. Upon waking, insert the device into the clip holder and attach it to your belt or pocket. Press and hold the device button to switch to walking record mode. Before sleeping, insert the device into the wristband's pocket and wear it on your wrist. Then, press and hold the device button again to switch to sleep record mode.
The "fitbit one" device itself displays the current time, vibration activation time, steps taken, floors climbed, distance traveled, estimated calories burned, and a "flower" indicating your recent activity level. These data are managed through synchronization with your smartphone. Furthermore, using the "dashboard" on the dedicated app or website, you can record and manage your meals and weight. You can also add friends to share activity records, making it a fun way to support lifestyle improvements.
Starting in July, "fitbit" added the docomo GALAXY S4 SC-04E to its compatible devices, also supporting Android terminals. Additionally, "Fitbit Flex," currently featured in SMAP's television commercials, has been launched in Japan as SoftBank Mobile's healthcare service.
