Limited Edition "Leica X Maroon" to be Released, Only 50 Units Available

To commemorate the opening of the Leica Hankyu Umeda store, the domestically limited "Leica X Maroon" model will be released. Based on the globally popular German-made premium compact digital camera "Leica X" with its silver body, this special edition features the classic Leica logo engraved on the flash cover and is clad in leather of a "maroon color"—a traditional hue used for Hankyu Railway train car paint for over 100 years.

The "Leica X" serving as the base for this limited edition is equipped with a "Leica Summilux 23mm f/1.7 ASPH." lens and a large APS-C size image sensor (16.2 megapixels) for a compact digital camera. This combination of sensor and lens, hidden within its simple form, renders details with natural color reproduction. The lens boasts a very bright f/1.7 aperture, allowing for effortless control over bokeh effects and sharp, clear images from infinity down to a minimum focusing distance of 0.2 meters.

The limited edition "Leica X Maroon" achieves an exquisite balance between the "Leica X"'s simple form and the maroon color, resulting in an elegantly refined style. Additionally, a maroon strap, matching the leather covering of the body, is included as a set, making it an unmissable detail.

Domestically Limited Edition "Leica X Maroon"
Limited to 50 Units
Price: ¥324,000

Works Shot with Leica Cameras Also on Display in the Store

It has been 100 years since Oskar Barnack, an engineer at Ernst Leitz Optische Werke (now Leica Camera AG), created the first 35mm camera, the "Ur-Leica," in 1914. The Leica Hankyu Umeda store opens, offering an experience of "Leica's worldview"—built over a long history—encompassing optical and precision technology, the craftsmanship that supports them, and the pursuit of the essence of photography.

Herbie Yamaguchi to Hold Talk Show and Signing Session

To celebrate the opening of the Leica Hankyu Umeda store, Leica Camera Japan will host "The World of Leica: Herbie Yamaguchi Photo Exhibition and 100 Years of Leica" at the Hankyu Umeda Gallery on the 9th floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store from August 26th (Wednesday) to August 31st (Monday).

During this period, a photo exhibition by Herbie Yamaguchi, a photographer known for his use of Leica cameras and admired by a wide range of fans, will be held. Approximately 50 works selected by Yamaguchi himself will be displayed across three sections: 'Angels of the Streets,' 'Europe,' and 'Heroes.' On August 30th (Sunday), Yamaguchi will give a talk show, and a signing session is also planned.

The venue will also feature an exhibition of historical Leica camera models (from the Japan Camera Museum collection) that have shaped Leica's history, alongside panels detailing the 100-year journey of Leica since the birth of the Ur-Leica, its progenitor. Current models, including Leica's latest, and Leica-related books will also be on display and available for purchase.

Furthermore, within the event space at the same venue, a "Leica Photo Seminar" will be held throughout the exhibition period. Photographer Tomizo Tomoda, active in diverse fields such as fashion, cuisine, product, and architecture, will be invited as an instructor to share techniques for elevating everyday photography, including portraits, snapshots, and table photography.
