Two Models Available
The long-awaited “Sony Tablet” will be released starting on the 17th. The lineup includes the “Sony Tablet” S series, which allows users to freely enjoy various content like e-books and videos on a large screen, and the “Sony Tablet” P series, designed for portability with a foldable design featuring two displays.
The “Sony Tablet” S series is equipped with Android 3.1 or Android 3.2 as its platform and an NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 mobile processor. Models with Wi-Fi only and models with both 3G and Wi-Fi communication capabilities are available. The 9.4-inch large display allows for operation and browsing of web content, various network services, and a rich selection of applications. Weighing approximately 598g (for the Wi-Fi only model), it features an off-center weight design that shifts the center of gravity to one side. This design achieves a sense of lightness and comfortable grip, pursuing comfort for extended use.
3G Version Available from Docomo
The foldable “Sony Tablet” P series is equipped with the latest Android 3.2 and an NVIDIA® Tegra™ 2 mobile processor. In addition to Wi-Fi, it supports 3G communication. It features dual 5.5-inch displays and, when folded, measures approximately 180mm x 26mm x 79mm and weighs about 372g, making it compact. Users can easily enjoy online connectivity via 3G when on the go. The 3G service is available through a contract with Docomo.
Beyond Android apps, the enjoyment expands through integration with Sony's content services. Notable examples include the video distribution service “Video Unlimited” and “PlayStation™Certified,” which allows users to enjoy titles from the original PlayStation. We look forward to seeing how Sony's unique content capabilities will be fully leveraged.
The release date is September 17th (for Wi-Fi models; 3G models will be available in October-November), but you can already try them out at Sony Stores in Ginza and Nagoya.
