CANON EOS 5Ds / EOS 5Ds R: Full-Frame Cameras with 50.6 Megapixel Sensors
CANON
A High-Pixel Model Joins the EOS 5D Series, Celebrating its 10th Anniversary
The EOS 5Ds Achieves a New Dimension of Resolution with a 50.6 Megapixel Full-Frame Sensor
Canon will launch the "EOS 5Ds" and "EOS 5Ds R," ultra-high-pixel models with 50.6 megapixels, on Thursday, June 18, 2015. These cameras are positioned as digital SLRs for advanced amateurs, inheriting the legacy of the "EOS 5" series, which was the first to feature a full-frame CMOS sensor. Both models are equipped with an effective 50.6-megapixel 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor. The "EOS 5Ds R" features a function that cancels the effect of the low-pass filter.

Enjoy High-Definition Photos of Immense Size Without Stress
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the series' birth, and the "EOS 5Ds" and "EOS 5DsR" are being released, carrying on the "EOS 5D" series' mission to provide the highest image quality to a wide range of users. Both cameras feature a full-frame sensor with an effective 50.6 megapixels, double that of previous models. Furthermore, they are equipped with two of Canon's "DIGIC 6" image processors, enhancing image processing performance to achieve high-resolution shooting at up to 8688 x 5792 dots.
The immense 50.6-megapixel count particularly shines in genres like landscape photography where resolution is paramount. Regardless of the subject, you can print posters or crop and retouch images after shooting with little concern for image size.

Both the "EOS 5Ds" and "EOS 5Ds R" are equipped with a 35mm full-frame sensor with an effective 50.6 megapixels.
The "EOS 5Ds R" allows for the cancellation of the low-pass filter's effect, which can suppress noise but also reduce resolution. While the risk of moiré and other visual noise increases, this cancellation function allows you to fully experience the resolution of the 50.6-megapixel full-frame sensor.
Additionally, both the "EOS 5Ds" and "EOS 5DsR" feature a 61-point area AF sensor, which offers improved AF (autofocus) accuracy and stability compared to previous models. Other features include the "Crop" and "Time-lapse video" functions, new to the EOS series, enhancing the camera's ability to leverage its high resolution and sensor size.
