Creating Small Cities Within the Concept of "Large Communities"

Organized by AAF (Art and Architecture Festa, NPO), which aims to foster the development of art and social environments through architecture, the "Architecture Lecture Series 217" is a talk session that garners significant support from students and young architects as a forum for stimulating exchange among professionals. Each session features architects Ashizawa and Hiranuma, who are of the same age, along with a renowned guest architect, exploring the possibilities and directions of architecture.

The guest speaker for this session is architect Riken Yamamoto, who advocates for "Regional Social Zones," a concept that questions the relationship between architecture and society.

Yamamoto, who has a solid track record both domestically and internationally with projects ranging from public facilities in Japan such as the Yokosuka Museum of Art and the Fussa City Hall, to large-scale international plans, is currently overseeing the construction of "THE CIRCLE," an airport complex in Zurich, Switzerland. This project, which was selected through a competition, is recognized for its concept of "creating small cities," going beyond a mere complex.

What is architect Yamamoto's approach to creation, as he continues to explore the potential of regional communities? This session promises a profound discussion through the perspectives of Ryuichi Ashizawa and Takamasa Hiranuma. Participation requires advance registration and is limited to 380 people. Applications are currently being accepted via the website.
