The History of Zaha Hadid, the "Queen of Unbuilt"
Born in Baghdad in 1950, Zaha Hadid now resides in London and is one of the world's leading architects, a master of contemporary design. Since establishing her own firm in 1980, she won the international competition for "The Peak," a leisure club in Hong Kong, in 1983. This event propelled Hadid to international fame.
However, at the time, construction technology could not keep pace with Hadid's designs, including this project. For over a decade after establishing her firm, none of her designs were actually built, earning her the nickname "Queen of the Unbuilt."
Construction of her designs began after she undertook the Vitra Fire Station project in 1993 and subsequently won major competitions. Most recently, she was selected as the winner of the international design competition for Japan's New National Stadium, finally leading to the construction of her work in Japan.
Experience Hadid's Philosophy Amidst Dynamically Utilized Space
This exhibition, the first large-scale solo show in Japan, presents Hadid's past and current works, offering a comprehensive insight into her philosophy.
The exhibition features drawings born from extensive research and videos of her completed projects worldwide, presented through installations that dynamically utilize the entire space. This offers a valuable opportunity for all visitors, from those encountering Hadid's name for the first time to those familiar with her early work, to experience her philosophy from their own perspectives.
