NEWS│Toyo Ito-designed Driade "SUKI" Now on Display at Yamagiwa Ribina Main Building 5F
TOYO ITO DESIGNS DRIADE'S "SUKI"
ON DISPLAY AT YAMAGIWA RIBINA MAIN STORE, 5TH FLOOR
The "SUKI" chair by Driade, designed by Toyo Ito—one of the world's most significant architects, who also designs furniture—is now on display at the Yamagiwa Ribina Main Store on the fifth floor.
A Fortunate Encounter: Italy's Premier Modern Furniture Maker Meets a Japanese Architect
First unveiled in 1989, "SUKI" was a celebrated piece, marking Driade's inaugural collaboration with a Japanese designer.
Its reissue had long been desired, but the complexity of its manufacturing made it difficult to realize.
Reissued in 2007 after finding artisans with the requisite skill, the handmade "SUKI" features a serial number engraving.
The expanded metal used for the seat and back is lightweight yet strong. As it's made from a single sheet, the mesh will not tangle or unravel. The rod-like components attached vertically to the seat and back are springs that act as cushions, providing a feeling of floating when you sit.
