New Release from a Niigata-Based Book Label
HIMAA, an artist highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally, has released works with overseas publishers such as Switzerland's "Nieves" and Hungary's "innen," and recently participated in "TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR." The artist has now changed their name to "Masanao Hirayama," marking a fresh start. For their first release under the new name, they have collaborated with "edition nord," a Niigata-based book label with a global reach, to launch the new work "3444."

Featuring "EN Binding" with a Utility Model Patent for Easy Viewing of Spreads
This first release, "3444," under the name Masanao Hirayama following the change from HIMAA, is a collection of over 500 drawings. Within this substantial volume, it condenses frenetic pen strokes, minimalist-evoking negative space, and gentle humor.
While each individual drawing possesses immense charm, the sequence spanning 560 pages is equally captivating. One can imagine myriad stories emerging from the continuity and the pauses between images. Furthermore, the binding itself is noteworthy. The adoption of "EN Binding," which holds a utility model patent, allows the pages to turn naturally despite the book's thickness. It also opens well, ensuring that the artwork displayed across the spreads is not distorted.
The artist refers to "3445" as a "fake." At first glance, it appears to have the same format as "3444," but upon opening the pages, they are completely blank... This volume is intended for use as a notebook. Despite its 560 pages, the unique binding makes it ideal for sketching or jotting down notes.
These two books, imbued with a fresh spirit following the name change, are sure to captivate not only fans from the HIMAA era but also those encountering Hirayama's work for the first time, drawing them into the "Hirayama World."
