Promoting at "101 Tokyo Contemporary Art Fair 2009"

UTRECHT, together with PAPER BACK (represented by Oliver Watson) based in London, UK, will host "ZINE’S MATE TOKYO 2009," the first large-scale book fair in Japan focused on publications by independent publishers. The event will take place at "EYE OF GYRE," a gallery within GYRE in Omotesando, and "Vacant" in Harajuku, starting July 10th (Friday).

In conjunction with this, a preview of "ZINE'S MATE TOKYO 2009" is being held at the "101 Tokyo Contemporary Art Fair 2009" in Akihabara, Tokyo, running until April 5th (Sunday), to promote the fair.

A Message from Hiroshi Eguchi, UTRECHT Representative, Regarding "ZINE'S MATE TOKYO 2009"

This year, a major new book fair will be held in London, and the four-year-old NY Art Book Fair is also opening its doors.
New bookshops specializing in small-scale publications continue to grow in cities across Europe, America, and Asia. The production of artist books, zines, and art books is increasing globally. "ZINE’S MATE" was conceived as a response to this trend, representing Tokyo, the capital of Japan and a hub for independent publishers, discerning bookshops, sophisticated book lovers, and artists.

"ZINE'S MATE TOKYO 2009" will be held at "EYE OF GYRE," a gallery space within the commercial facility "GYRE" located in Tokyo's cultural center, Omotesando, and at "Vacant" in Harajuku.
For this event, we invite artists and publishers from Japan, which continues to produce innovative and unique bookmaking, as well as from around the world.
One of the fair's most important missions is to showcase artists who continue to create works through self-publishing. These are often lesser-known, peripheral artists, regardless of age or gender. By providing them with booth space, "ZINE’S MATE" aims to bring to light these brilliant talents who express their unique and rich imaginations through the modest medium of books.
