The essence of "MAN-MADE OBJECTS"

Things made by human hands bear subtle traces that only humans can leave behind. These connect to the warmth of the human hand, the certainty of the work of the person who created them, and become the only sure things in this hurried world.

Play Mountain, an interior shop, opened in 2000 in a corner of a shop in Ura-Harajuku. Alongside original furniture, it featured everyday tools gathered through their network, and masterpieces from around the world.

Play Mountain also functions as a showroom for items from the furniture label "Landscape Products." Their original furniture, with its beautiful wood textures and details, fits seamlessly into Japanese homes, suited to the country's climate. Sizes and colors can be custom-ordered, making the ability to order such unique furniture one of the shop's distinct features.

In 2002, the shop relocated to its current location in Sendagaya. The expanded space now houses original furniture from Landscape Products and items from around the world, with a more clearly defined concept. It features brass objects with refined textures, Nordic masterpieces, functional tableware that conveys the maker's sensibility, and a variety of new folk crafts from across Japan. The shop's layout is always thoughtfully arranged, serving as inspiration for interior coordination.



Valuing the origin and climate of the land where things are born, while paying respect to the human craftsmanship that creates them. What emerges from this activity is guided by human thought in the making of things. It is the unadorned beauty of "MAN-MADE OBJECTS," as they call it, filled with a universal appeal born from human intervention.

The founder of the Mingei movement, Sōetsu Yanagi, once called the healthy beauty inherent in everyday tools created without pretension "the beauty of utility." This can sometimes lead to a beauty beyond human comprehension, something unimaginable, and it fosters a sense of purpose in the craftsmanship, bringing joy to the work of the people involved.

In the summer of 2007, "Play Mountain Maisonette," a gallery and communication space, opened on the second floor of the shop. The opening exhibition, a solo show by sculptor Mitsuru Koga titled "STON / man made stone objects," garnered attention. They also began developing "PP Blower," original glassware using traditional blown glass techniques, in collaboration with the glass studio "Prepa" in Nagano. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Landscape Products' establishment. Their activities are certainly worth watching.
