How to Elevate Creative Ideas into Art
MatthewFirst, could you give our readers a brief introduction to yourself?
JonMy name is Jon Burgerman, and I'm an artist from the UK. My work focuses on how to elevate creative ideas into art. I present my work through drawings, paintings, animations, and live performances. Most of my pieces are drawn directly with a pen, but I also scan them and create digitally. When I'm developing concepts or writing, I incorporate rhyme to connect ideas and forms, bringing harmony to the whole piece – that's my drawing style.
I like mojitos, cold days, and potato snacks. I dislike mosquitoes, hot days, and celery (but I do like salads).
MatthewYou're based in New York now, aren't you? Oscar Wilde, John Lennon – many great British figures have moved to New York. What do you think about following in their footsteps?
JonI'm flattered! Oscar Wilde famously said at New York customs, 'I have nothing to declare but my genius.' I don't know if I can follow in their footsteps, but I get completely worn out by long queues, so I try to say as little as possible when going through customs. This isn't exactly the way to greet a dazzling metropolis where decadence and joy mix. Also, since I want to live here peacefully without getting shot, I'm glad I don't have the same kind of genius as John Lennon.
Is Matthew Waldman Famous in the UK Too? (Laughs)
MatthewWhen it comes to models for your work, do you prefer humans or dogs?
JonHmm, with humans, you can communicate, but dogs just run off without listening at all. But I like both. I can draw a nude dog without feeling embarrassed. They drool a bit more than human models, though.
MatthewWhat was your first impression when you met me? Is Matthew Waldman famous in the UK too? (Laughs)
JonTo be honest, I didn't know you at all when I lived in the UK (laughs). It's understandable, as trends in the UK were a few years behind those in the US when I was a child. Now, I can't go even a few weeks, or even days or hours, without thinking of you, Matthew. In fact, here I am in your world, and you are in my consciousness. If I wanted to meet, you even appear in my dreams sometimes.
NOOKA x Jon Burgerman Collaboration Announced!
MatthewYou're collaborating with NOOKA next. What are your thoughts on that?
JonI was incredibly excited when you proposed the collaboration. There's nothing more satisfying than working with a brand I genuinely love and use. We're planning to create the coolest watch that travels through time and space. It's not an exaggeration to say it's a watch that precisely sends the wearer to that moment when they look at it, and when they look away, they feel like they're in the future.
The strap will feature cute food and smiley face illustrations, making it a must-have item for stylish individuals, sure to catch the eye around town.
