Vol. 30: An Interview with Jules Kim, Designer of Bijules
Jules Kim, the designer behind Bijules, is a creator who effortlessly commands the balance between art and aesthetics in jewelry. She is one of the rare artists who possesses the ability to craft objects that reflect our beautiful yet chaotic world—its humor, tragedy, duality, love, and hate.

Creating 'Experiences' as Well as Jewelry
To walk with Jules is to be in the presence of foresight. A thinker quietly depicts the mysteries of this world through thought and expression in ways previously unimagined. It is difficult to separate the artist from art at any time. By being overwhelmed by the beauty of a goddess, fantasy becomes more tangible, and you can find a story within yourself.
Furthermore, she doesn't just create jewelry; she creates experiences. Listening to the pulse of the fashion world, she has demonstrated an ability to transcend the limits of vision and thought.
It is difficult to know how one achieves this. You will realize that she provides a universal experience that adapts to your current situation. And from her jewelry, you receive the conviction of the creator herself, emanating from the moment of creation. Her enduring popularity and admiration, whether challenging the times or in ordinary moments, and even when her expressions take traditional forms, attest to her artistry.
What Innovative Concepts and Beautifully Crafted Jewelry Reveal
MatthewThe term 'innovation' is often heard when discussing cutting-edge technology, but it can feel insufficient in other aspects of our lives. What are your thoughts on this?
JulesI use the word 'innovation' every day. While I don't live in the world of highly complex technology, I believe I am as passionate about my innovative and original theories as any engineer.
MatthewYou hosted a fantastic party at Le Bain at The Standard hotel in New York this summer. Was that party part of a holistic strategy for your jewelry?
JulesBijules is a brand born from high-end jewelry products. Jewelry with innovative concepts and beautiful craftsmanship represent the foundation of Bijules.
However, on the other hand, our choices should also fill the room with deep consideration and personal expression. When I host parties or events, I am creating a platform of choices for us to re-express the potential beauty that exists both on the surface of your skin and deep within your soul.
MatthewWhat do you love most about New York?
JulesI love that you can do anything in New York. If someone says you can't, you'll eventually find a way to do it, just as you can do anything.
MatthewWhat are you most excited about working on right now?
JulesI've just launched my store, 'bijulesterie.' This month, I'll be presenting a fashion film at the Centre Pompidou in Paris during ASVOFF (A Shaded View on Fashion Film), and I'm looking forward to collaborations with celebrities and many others as part of Bijules' activities.
Bijules has been featured in a wide range of media, including Italian Vogue, Russian Vogue, Numero, Numero Tokyo, Elle, Elle Denmark, Blink, iD, Blackbook, L’Officiel, Jalouse, Nylon, Oyster, NY Mag, Dazed, Another, and Pop Magazine.
