Iwate Traditional Crafts: The Land of Lacquer, Now On Display
Traditional crafts often evoke an image of exclusivity, but a closer look reveals many items that can easily be incorporated into our daily lives. An event offering such insights is currently underway at "ikisui," the event space in ecute TOKYO South Court, located within JR Tokyo Station. Titled "Iwate Traditional Crafts: The Land of Lacquer," the exhibition showcases renowned crafts from Iwate Prefecture, Japan's top lacquer producer, including Nanbu ironware, Joboji lacquerware, and Hideshima lacquerware.

See, Touch, Taste: Fully Enjoy Iwate!
This project began with the understanding that simply selecting or designing is not enough. Yu Yamada (method), who served as creative director, poses the question: How can traditional lacquerware be presented within the context of contemporary Japanese life? This event offers a tangible answer through a "limited-time shop."
The event space features a curated collection of crafts that seamlessly integrate into our current lifestyles. Additionally, during the event, a section dedicated to Iwate Prefecture's food products will be available within a portion of the "Niccolina" grocery and general goods shop located opposite "ikisui." Visitors can experience the warmth of Iwate's craftsmanship through sight, touch, and taste.
