Volkswagen Introduces New Brand Design & Logo in Japan

Volkswagen Group Japan (VGJ) announced on June 15 that it would roll out the new Volkswagen brand design and logo in the Japanese market.

The new brand design and logo, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last September, are said to signify the dawn of "New Volkswagen." They adopt a flat, two-dimensional design that strips away anything superfluous, symbolizing the company's future goals of electrification, full connectivity, and a neutral carbon balance. The design is also characterized by its high flexibility, making it better suited for digital media.
According to the announcement, the basic design was created by a joint team from the company's design and marketing departments in a remarkably short period of just nine months. While the previous logo featured a combination of blue and white, the new logo adds a new tone of blue and allows for other color variations. It is also designed to be flexibly positioned on a new "moving frame," enabling compatibility with modern digital applications that feature simple and user-friendly interfaces.
VGJ has updated its official website as of the same day. New logos will also be progressively introduced at Volkswagen dealerships nationwide. The logo appears to be used as a lighting element, replacing traditional chrome plating, to enhance brand presence at dealerships.
Klaus Bischoff, Head of Design at Volkswagen, commented, "We have created a new communication platform using the new brand design to emotionally express e-mobility. With the motto 'digital first' and 'without filters,' we aimed to represent the Volkswagen of the future."
