Jaguar Land Rover Trials New Recycling Process
Since 2019, Jaguar Land Rover in the UK has been conducting a trial research project called "ChemiCycling" to recycle plastic waste and use it as a new premium material in future Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

Ultimately for Dashboards and Exteriors of Next-Generation Jaguar Land Rover Vehicles
ChemiCycling is a collaborative effort between the company and the global science company BASF, aiming to transform general plastic waste destined for landfill or incineration into a new, high-quality material.
Specifically, plastic waste is converted into pyrolysis oil through a thermochemical process. This secondary raw material is then supplied to BASF's production chain and manufactured into a premium-grade plastic that can be processed and colored. The ultimate goal is to create an ideal and sustainable solution by using this material in the dashboards and exteriors of next-generation Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
Currently, this new material is being adopted for the overmolded front-end carrier of the prototype for the "I-PACE," Jaguar's first all-electric (BEV) vehicle, to verify if it can meet the stringent safety standards just like existing components.
Chris Brown, Senior Sustainability Manager at Jaguar Land Rover, stated, "We are actively working to reduce single-use plastics in our manufacturing processes, minimize excess waste throughout the product lifecycle, and increase the use of recycled materials. Our collaboration with BASF embodies our commitment to achieving a circular economy."
