Volkswagen Group Japan announced on Tuesday, August 21, the introduction of the diesel engine "TDI" specification for two models, the hatchback "Golf" and the station wagon "Golf Variant," across all eight grades. Simultaneously, the "TDI" was also set for the seven-seater station wagon "Sharan" and announced. Sales will commence on Tuesday, October 1.

Following last year's "Passat" and "Tiguan," the TDI diesel engine specification has finally arrived for the "Golf."

The TDI engine is a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo, producing a maximum output of 110kW (150ps) and a maximum torque of 340Nm (34.7kgm) for the Golf and Golf Variant. It drives the front wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission (DSG). For the Sharan, while also a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo, it produces a maximum output of 130kW (177ps) and a maximum torque of 380Nm (38.8kgm), paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission (DSG).

A total of eight grades are being introduced, with four grades each for the Golf and Golf Variant. Among these are the "Meister" special edition models, which represent the culmination of the current Golf and were launched in June this year.

Including the Sharan, all models are available in six body colors. Prices for the TDI models range from 3.23 million yen to 3.91 million yen for the Golf TDI. The Golf Variant ranges from 3.37 million yen to 4.05 million yen. The Sharan will be available in a single grade, priced at 5,296,000 yen.
