4-Liter Engine and 1,200kg Weight Evolved

Porsche's racing car, the 911 GT3 R, was recently brought to Japan and unveiled. This model, developed based on the road-legal GT3 RS, is equipped with a 4-liter flat-six engine producing 480ps.

Produced at Porsche's Weissach R&D center, the 911 GT3 R is a model developed for Porsche fans who enjoy racing. The engine's displacement has been increased to 4 liters, the body weight reduced to 1,200kg, and it features a sequential 6-speed gearbox. Additionally, the electronic throttle control, traction control system, and ABS have been revised.

According to Porsche's official press materials, 'By adopting the above technologies, we have improved controllability and made the handling easier to manage compared to the previous 911 GT3 Cup S.'

The engine has a bore of 80.4mm and a stroke of 102.7mm, an increase from the 76.4mm bore of the base GT3 R's 3.8-liter unit. Combined with Bosch electronic throttle control, it also features a so-called blip control, where the computer matches engine revs during downshifts.

The GT3 R is characterized by its lightweight construction, "armed" with aerodynamic components made of carbon fiber for racing. Its functionality as a racing car has been enhanced, with a wider adjustment range for the rear wing.

The suspension system features double wishbones at the front and multi-links at the rear. The coil/damper units are a dual setup, front and rear. The Michelin racing tires, mounted on center-lock wheels, are sized 27/65 at the front and 31/71 at the rear, with a 18-inch diameter.

Scheduled for Japanese Debut at Super GT Round 5

The 911 GT3 R has already achieved notable success, including three consecutive victories in the Nürburgring Endurance Championship. Only 20 units are planned for production. The vehicle being brought to Japan is the only one to be delivered outside of Europe.

The GT3 was developed in accordance with FIA GT3 regulations in Europe. The GT3 R, a pure racing specification with only a driver's seat, will compete in the GT300 class of Super GT in Japan. It is scheduled to make its domestic debut at Super GT Round 5, held at Sportsland SUGO on Saturday, July 24th, and Sunday, July 25th, 2010.

BRAND HISTORY
PORSCHE is a globally acclaimed sports car brand, earning overwhelming support from skilled drivers worldwide. Its origins trace back to 1931. Ferdinand Porsche, a genius who distinguished himself as an automotive engineer from his twenties, gained experience as technical director at Daimler before establishing his own "Porsche Design Office" in Stuttgart, Germany. From then on, he was entrusted with the development of various vehicles for automobile manufacturers. Notably, he contributed significantly to motorization with the "Volkswagen Beetle," Germany's "people's car."

The first car to bear his name as an automobile manufacturer was the "356," introduced in 1948. Since then, Porsche has released sports cars such as the "911," "924," and "928," while also focusing on motorsport. For instance, they have achieved 16 victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, considered the world's most grueling race, and contributed to three series championships as an engine supplier in Formula 1, marking a brilliant racing history. It goes without saying that their technological prowess and dedication to driving performance live on in their products today.

Currently, Porsche boasts a lineup of highly popular models, including the "911," which continues to be highly regarded as a top-tier sports car even 45 years after its debut, the open-top sports car "Boxster," its coupe counterpart the "Cayman," and the premium sports SUV "Cayenne."
