The Sportiest Diesel

The wagon model based on the seventh-generation Golf, theGolf Variant, will be joined by the "Golf Variant GTD," its sportiest diesel engine model.

Within the Golf lineup, it is the second sportiest model after the "Golf R", which was engineered by Volkswagen R, the motorsport division. This is the "GTI". The "GTD" is its diesel engine counterpart.

The 2-liter inline-4 direct-injection turbodiesel engine, inherited from the "Golf GTD" announced at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, produces a maximum output of 135 kW (184 ps) and a peak torque of 380 Nm. It boasts a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.9 seconds. Fuel efficiency, expected from a diesel engine, is also high, with European figures of 4.8-4.4 L/100 km (approximately 20.8-22.7 km/L) and CO2 emissions announced at 125-115 g/km.

Of course, it's not just the engine that's inherited from the Golf GTD; it also features a sporty exterior, including GTD-specific bumpers, a honeycomb grille, smoked rear combination lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, black roof rails, and chrome dual tailpipes. Furthermore, it comes standard with bi-xenon headlights, sports suspension with a 15mm lower ride height, and progressive steering that provides comfort during normal driving and sharp handling during spirited driving.

The sporty design extends to the interior, with illuminated door sills, a black headliner, and the classic tartan check pattern for the seats, a hallmark of the GTI and GTD.

Additionally, optional packages such as the "Sport and Design" package, which includes 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, and driving mode selection, as well as leather seats, are available.

Reservations have already begun in Europe, with prices for the domestic specification starting from 31,975 euros.
