The Calendar Goes Electric

Renault is actively involved in motorsports, not only in F1 but also recently by taking the "Mégane R.S. Trophy-R" to the Nürburgring and earning the title of fastest production FF model. On the other hand, they are also focusing on developing electric vehicles for a sustainable automotive society.

Most recently, there's the "Eolab Concept" unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. In Europe, the compact EV "ZOE," the commercial EV model "Kangoo Z.E.," and the EV city commuter "Twizy" are already on the market.

Amidst this, it seems the wave of electrification (digitalization) has finally reached Renault Japon's annual "driving calendar."

The "driving calendar," themed around the brand message "Vis Tes Passions (Live Your Passions)," allows users to spend the year with a Renault car and has been distributed as a non-sale item since the year before last. The 2015 model, following the first's manual vertical scroll and the second's manual mechanical horizontal scroll, debuts as the first automatic scrolling version, displaying digitally in sync with an iPhone®.

Its exterior maintains the concept of "not looking like a calendar at first glance." While the miniature car is placed in the center of the included diorama and a French-inspired illustration is displayed in the background, just like the 2014 model, the new version includes small accessories to create a sense of depth. These accessories can be decorated, allowing users to customize them according to their preferences.

The main unit functions as an iPhone® charging stand. While charging, it displays the current time obtained from GPS information, and the weather is reflected in the background illustration. This background scrolling has changed from manual operation to fully automatic, allowing the miniature car to "drive" even when the "driver" is absent.

Please note that only "iPhone® 5," "iPhone® 5s," and "iPhone® 5c" are compatible for connection, so be mindful of this when using the product.

It's unclear how much CO2 emissions can be reduced by switching from an EV to an EC (Electric Calendar), thereby eliminating the physical exertion of turning pages daily. However, if you can enjoy a "French landscape with a Renault car" while charging your iPhone®, it might not be something to worry about.

This is the third "driving calendar" from Renault Japon, which, powered by electric energy, more vibrantly brings "Live Your Passions" to life. Unfortunately, it is not for sale and therefore difficult to obtain, but OPENERS is offering three of them as gifts again this year. The application deadline is December 22, 2014, at 11:59 AM.
