Glamorous Design Intact, Even as a Wagon

Introduced this Julyfollowing the Mercedes-BenzC-Class Sedan"C-Class Sedan", theStation Wagon"Station Wagon" has also undergonea full model change. This new model, the first in six years, adopts a lightweight, high-rigidity aluminum hybrid body, using approximately 50 percent aluminum for the body shell, similar to the sedan.

Compared to the previous model, the body alone has achieved a weight reduction of approximately 75 kg, and by lowering the center of gravity, it has achieved sporty and agile handling. Of course, in addition to optimizing NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) characteristics, it also brings about a fuel efficiency improvement of over 20 percent.

The glamorous and beautiful styling of the new station wagon incorporates Mercedes-Benz's latest aerodynamics technology, achieving a Cd value of 0.27. This low figure, touted as the best in its segment, contributes to improved fuel efficiency and reduced wind noise.

The suspension system offers three types, similar to the sedan. These include the standard "AGILITY CONTROL suspension" that adjusts damping force according to driving conditions, the "Sports suspension" based on the AGILITY CONTROL suspension but with a firmer setup and altered steering gear ratio, and the "AIRMATIC suspension," the first air suspension in its segment.

The type of suspension is determined by the selected grade, allowing for differentiation in character and shortened delivery times. The "C180 Station Wagon," "C180 Station Wagon Avantgarde," and "C200 Station Wagon Avantgarde" come with AGILITY CONTROL suspension, the "C180 Station Wagon Sports" features Sports suspension, and the "C200 Station Wagon Sports," "C200 Station Wagon Sports (Leather Interior)," and "C250 Station Wagon Sports" are equipped with AIRMATIC suspension.

The engines are newly developed 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter inline-4 BlueDIRECT turbo units. The 1.6-liter engine in the "C180" produces a maximum output of 156 ps at 5,300 rpm and a maximum torque of 250 Nm at 1,200-4,000 rpm. Two versions of the 2.0-liter engine are available: one for the "C200" with a maximum output of 184 ps at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1,200-4,000 rpm.

The other is for the higher-grade "C250," producing a maximum output of 211 ps at 5,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 350 Nm at 1,200-4,000 rpm. All models are paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission.

The latest safety technologies, introduced in theS-Class"S-Class" announced last year, are also actively employed in this C-Class Station Wagon. The advanced driver assistance systems, including the "Radar Safety Package," have evolved further. By employing a composite sensor system using radar and cameras, they cover a 360° area around the vehicle. This allows for the detection and precise location of preceding and following vehicles, oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and more. It achieves "partial autonomous driving" by automatically assisting with acceleration, braking, and steering according to the situation.

In terms of utility, the maximum luggage capacity is 1490 liters, an increase of up to 25 liters compared to the previous model. The rear seats, which were previously split 2:1, are now 40:20:40, allowing for versatile seat arrangements to accommodate passengers and various sizes of cargo. Additionally, all models come standard with a reversible luggage room mat featuring both rubber and velour surfaces. The rubber side allows for easy cleaning, so you can use it actively without worrying about dirt.

The new model offers seven specifications, from the entry-level "C180 Station Wagon" to the sporty and powerful top model "C250 Station Wagon Sports." It is available only in right-hand drive, with prices ranging from 4.42 million to 7.24 million yen.
