Bentley Motors Japan has launched new 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine models for the third-generation "Continental GT" and "Continental GT Convertible." Deliveries are scheduled to begin in spring 2020.

The new Continental GT and GT Convertible, announced last year, now include a 4.0-liter V8 turbo model. Compared to the 6.0-liter W12 engine models, these are more accessible, priced at ¥1,285,200 less for the coupe and ¥1,447,200 less for the convertible, positioning them as entry-level options.

While previous models were equipped with a 6.0-liter W12 twin-turbo engine, the newly introduced models feature a new generation 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo gasoline engine. It produces a maximum output of 550ps and a peak torque of 700Nm, driving all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The coupe achieves a top speed of 318 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds (4.1 seconds for the convertible). Furthermore, it can deactivate four of its eight cylinders, contributing to improved fuel efficiency along with the idling stop function.

Lightweight anti-roll bars have been fitted front and rear to enhance the handling experience. Bentley claims that by switching modes, drivers can enjoy everything from a refined ride to agile sports driving. Additionally, the air suspension incorporates three-chamber air springs, contributing to both a comfortable ride and dynamic performance.

Both models feature quad exhaust pipes, designed to allow the V8 sound to be fully appreciated. They are equipped with 20-inch, 10-spoke painted alloy wheels. Nine other wheel options, including 22-inch designs, are available. The headlights feature a design inspired by crystal glass, incorporating matrix technology.

For the GT Convertible, the roof can be opened or closed in 19 seconds at speeds below 50 km/h. It also includes newly designed neck warmers, a heated steering wheel, and heated armrests, all engineered to allow enjoyment of open-top driving even in cold weather.

The interior is handcrafted with a focus on the driver, utilizing natural materials such as the finest leather and sustainably sourced wood veneers. A 650W, 10-speaker Bentley Audio system is standard, with an instrument panel designed from the driver's perspective at the center of the dashboard. A rotating display, which can present a 12.3-inch touchscreen or three analog gauges, is available as an option.

Both models come with seven standard body colors, with a wide range of optional colors also available. Prices, including 8% consumption tax, are ¥24,526,800 for the Continental GT V8 and ¥26,870,400 for the Continental GT V8 Convertible.
