Three Power Unit Options
The new XJ, making its first full model change in six years, is the company's new-era flagship, embodying Jaguar's brand philosophy of "beautiful, fast cars" in a novel and sporty manner.
Its most striking feature is likely the significant shift from Jaguar's traditional, classic, and somewhat warm exterior design to a new, sharp aesthetic. The flowing form, centered around elongated, teardrop-shaped side windows, is aerodynamically superior, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.29Cd.
The power units, similar to the new XK, feature Jaguar's most advanced and powerful 5-liter V8 direct injection engine to date. Three variants are available: a naturally aspirated 385ps engine, and two supercharged units (470ps and 510ps).
Official Launch in March 2010
The interior, touted as the most luxurious in Jaguar's history, is said to offer an enveloping space, meticulously crafted with artistry and numerous advanced technologies. Key technological features include Jaguar's first "iTech" system, comprising a 12-inch high-resolution virtual instrument panel displaying speed and tachometer readings on an LCD screen, a media hub connectable wirelessly or via cable to portable AV devices, and an 8-inch full-color HD touchscreen for intuitive control of major functions like the climate control and HDD audio/navigation system. This setup allows the driver to operate all functions intuitively.
The body utilizes Jaguar's proprietary aluminum body technology, as in the previous generation. This results in a weight reduction of over 150kg compared to its competitors. Furthermore, the lightweight aluminum structure, incorporating 50% recycled materials, successfully minimizes the car's carbon footprint throughout its lifecycle. Compared to an aluminum body shell not using recycled aluminum, this offers a CO2 reduction of approximately 3 tons per vehicle.
The model lineup consists of six variants: the "Luxury," "Premium Luxury," and "Portfolio" with the naturally aspirated engine; the "Portfolio" long-wheelbase with the 470ps supercharged unit; and the "Supersport" and its long-wheelbase counterpart, both equipped with the 510ps supercharged engine. The official launch is scheduled for March 2010.
