Arriving with an entirely new form

Jaguar has unveiled the new "XJ," the most important model in its lineup.

A new generation of aluminum body and innovative exterior

The major features of this new "XJ" are none other than its new generation aluminum body and innovative exterior design.

Like the current model, the new "XJ" will be available in short and long wheelbase versions. However, even the short version is 32mm longer, 5mm narrower, and 14mm taller than the current model. Specifically, it has been announced as 5123mm long, 1895mm wide, and 1448mm tall (wheelbase remains unchanged at 3032mm). The long version is stretched by 125mm, with a wheelbase of 3157mm.

Despite the increased body size, this new "XJ" adopts a new generation aluminum body structure, making it approximately 150kg lighter than its competitors, the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series. Furthermore, 50% of the aluminum used is recycled material, and 85% of the new parts are recyclable.

The body of the new "XJ" also sets itself apart from previous XJ models in its design. The XJ has traditionally featured a low stance with a long nose and long deck, but this new model breaks from that tradition, adopting an entirely new form.

The front face, which is immediately striking, adopts a design consistent with the previously announced "XF." The steeply raked rear window also evokes the design of the "XF," and you'll notice its coupe-like styling.

A 510ps V8 with supercharger for the top grade

The engine is a third-generation V8. The top grade, called "Supersport," is equipped with a direct-injection 5.0-liter V8 supercharger. The announced specifications show a maximum output of 510ps and a maximum torque of 63.8kgm. It is said to achieve 0-96km/h in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h (with limiter). The "Supercharged" grade features a detuned version of the same engine, with a maximum output of 470ps and a maximum torque of 58.6kgm.

The naturally aspirated direct-injection 5.0-liter V8 engines in the "Premium Luxury" and "Portfolio" grades produce a maximum output of 385ps and a maximum torque of 52.6kgm.

The "Luxury," "Premium Luxury," and "Portfolio" grades are equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbo diesel engine. This engine is powerful, delivering a maximum output of 275ps and a maximum torque of 61.2kgm. It achieves performance figures of 0-96km/h in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h (with limiter). Despite its power, its environmental performance is also excellent, with a European combined fuel economy of 14.2km/l, CO2 emissions of 184g/km, and compliance with Euro 5 emission standards.

The interior also expresses Jaguar's distinctive character, with traditional craftsmanship creating a classical and luxurious space. The materials used are, of course, the finest leather and wood. The trunk capacity is 520 liters, capable of holding two large suitcases.

The new XJ has already begun accepting reservations in Europe. Deliveries are scheduled to commence around the beginning of 2010.
Prices in the UK start from £52,500 (approximately ¥7.96 million).
