Interior Photos of the New SLS AMG Revealed

Daimler has released interior photos of the new sports car, the "SLS AMG," scheduled for release in Spring 2010.

Cockpit Motif Inspired by Aircraft

The new SLS is a new supercar featuring gullwing doors. Its exterior was revealed in camouflage in March, but its full appearance had not yet been disclosed. This marks the first time interior photos have been released.

Opening the unique swing-wing doors reveals a sporty interior. It immediately evokes the cockpit of an aircraft. The interior, inspired by aviation, is masterfully reflected in the wing-shaped dashboard, the transmission shift lever reminiscent of an aircraft's thrust lever, and the four air vents with cross-shaped nozzles that evoke aircraft engines. Furthermore, materials include high-quality Nappa leather and metal parts, with carbon fiber available as an option, embodying a spirit of custom build down to the finest interior details.

Gordon Wagener, the company's head of design, commented as follows:

"What makes the SLS AMG's interior special is not just its exclusive swing-wing doors. The combination of luxurious materials and sports car practicality will captivate car enthusiasts while also hinting at the design philosophy for Mercedes' sports cars of a new era."
Chassis That Lets You Experience the Essence of "Mercedes Ride"
Furthermore, the ride comfort is exceptional. Even when encountering significant undulations at high speeds, the car body remains consistently flat, never unsettling the occupants. The way it smoothly glides over sharp inputs, such as highway expansion joints, as if they were nothing, is truly remarkable. Yet, it consistently communicates the driving situation to the driver, embodying the true essence of the "Mercedes ride."

While other grades equipped with V6 or V8 engines may not feel particularly nimble, they still offer straightforward cornering manners and a ride quality that envelops a rock-solid stability. However, the highlight of the new E-Class is undoubtedly the revived four-cylinder grade. This car possesses a freshness and vibrancy that makes one forget the era when the emblem's number directly translated to status. I am personally eager to see Mercedes' challenge in appealing to a new sense of value for the E-Class, fitting for this era, centered around this particular grade.
