A limited edition 911 Targa 4 GTS celebrates 50 years of Porsche Design
Porsche Japan has announced the "911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design," a limited edition of 750 units based on the "911 Targa 4 GTS," to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design. Reservations are now open.
A special model infused with the iconic design of F.A. Porsche
Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (F.A. Porsche), grandson of Dr. Ferdinand Porsche and designer of the original 911, along with his brother Hans-Peter.
In line with F.A. Porsche's philosophy that "good design must be honest," Porsche Design continues to release a variety of products to this day.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design, the "911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design" has been created, inspired by F.A. Porsche's iconic designs. The base for this model is the "911 Targa 4 GTS," which carries on the lineage of the 911 designed by F.A. Porsche.
As a homage to the past, iconic design elements are incorporated throughout, such as classic checkered seat centers and a sub-second clock with a red hand on the stopwatch, part of the standard Sport Chrono Package, designed by Porsche Design.
The body color is painted black, mirroring the "Chronograph I" watch designed by F.A. Porsche in 1972. A classic side stripe with a "Porsche Design" logo in a platinum satin finish adorns the flanks.
The Targa bar features a laser-engraved platinum satin finish, offering a new interpretation of the original classic model's brushed stainless steel. The grille on the rear engine cover bears F.A. Porsche's signature and a "Porsche Design 50th Anniversary" badge.
Concurrently with the announcement of the limited edition model, Porsche Classic undertook a two-year restoration of a "911 S 2.4 Targa" manufactured in 1972. They aimed to create a historical contrast with the "911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design."
However, the base vehicle was in poor condition, with some parts missing, presenting challenges. Porsche Classic specialists upgraded the engine and chassis to the specifications of the top-tier S version of that era. They ensured the 2.3-liter engine, equipped with mechanical fuel injection, could produce a maximum output of 190 hp. These two distinct 911 Targa models serve to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design.
The "911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design" is limited to 750 units worldwide, with a price of 25.05 million yen.
