New Mazda Roadster Debuts

Today, Mazda globally unveiled the fourth-generation Mazda Roadster at fan events held in Japan, the United States, and Spain.

The Strong Vision of Mazda Engineers

As previously announced, on September 4th, Mazda held the world premiere of the new Roadster, representing the fourth generation, at the "Mazda Roadster THANKS DAY in JAPAN" event for fans at the Maihama Amphitheater in Urayasu City, Chiba Prefecture.

The concept, "Evolving to Preserve. The Resolve of the 25th Year," suggests a drastic evolution in this full model change, though the specifications revealed on this day were merely development targets.

The description of the body size as "the most compact in the history of the Roadster" and the claim of "achieving a weight reduction of over 100kg compared to the current model" reveal the strong passion of Mazda's engineers for the new Roadster.

It was also revealed that the car features a direct-injection gasoline engine, "SKYACTIV-G," specially tuned for longitudinal mounting, a 6-speed manual transmission also with dedicated tuning, and lightweight, high-rigidity front double-wishbone and rear multi-link suspension newly developed using SKYACTIV technology and know-how.

Furthermore, the body design adopts "KODO – Soul of Motion," which creates a design with a strong sense of life, marking a significant change from the softer designs of previous Roadsters to a more dynamic and glamorous styling.

At present, pricing has not been announced. The release date is set for "global introduction starting in 2015."

The attention on the new Mazda Roadster is clearly global, as evidenced by its simultaneous unveiling in Monterey, USA, and Barcelona, Spain. Further details regarding the engine specifications and vehicle weight are anticipated.
