Rear-Wheel Drive V10 Delivers 620 PS, a 10 PS Increase

The Lamborghini "Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo" made its world premiere at Monterey Car Week in California. This model is a new generation circuit-only car based on the Huracan, developed by Automobili Lamborghini's motorsport division.

Developed from the ground up with a clear racing concept, it is designed to achieve high performance while meeting stringent motorsport safety standards. The roll cage, which enhances safety, extends not only to the cabin but also to the chassis's rear axle, and despite its large size, weighs only 43 kg. Furthermore, torsional rigidity has been improved by 45 percent compared to previous models.

Additionally, the Huracan's carbon and aluminum hybrid framehas also been modified, with the front radiator and the rear racing gearbox, which boasts superior aerodynamic effects, reshaped to match.

The engine is the same 5.2-liter V10 used in the "Huracan LP610-4" but with an increased maximum output of 620 PS, a 10 PS gain. The dry weight of the machine is a light 1,270 kg, compared to the road car's 1,422 kg, boasting a power-to-weight ratio of 2.05 kg/ps.

As indicated by the "-2" in the model name, the most significant feature of this model is its transmission of high power solely to the rear tires. The tires, which support its performance, are specially made Pirelli tires, with front sizes of 305/660-18 and rear sizes of 315/680-18, differing from the road model. The suspension features fully adjustable anti-roll bars and Öhlins two-way adjustable dampers.

Dallara Engineering Participated in Development

The interior extensively uses Alcantara, from the dashboard and center console to the steering wheel and seats. The steering wheel is a new racing-specific model co-developed with OMP.

The electronics have also undergone significant evolution, featuring new lightweight cabling and a connection unit exclusive to the Super Trofeo. The latest "MOTEC M182" controller is used for data acquisition and control of the sequential gearbox. Special features include traction control and Bosch motorsport ABS, allowing the driver to select the optimal mode from 12 options based on weather and track conditions.

Aerodynamic parts have also been refined to continuously improve aerodynamic characteristics for maximum traction and downforce. Additionally, a 10-setting adjustable rear wing, front and rear diffusers, and adjustable front air intakes support improved aerodynamic balance over previous models.

Dallara Engineering, led by Gian Paolo Dallara, also participated in the development of the Huracan Super Trofeo, optimizing aerodynamic performance and developing the chassis. Mr. Dallara himself was involved in the development. He is one of the engineers who was active in the early days of Lamborghini and played a crucial role in the development of models like the "Miura."

Mr. Dallara commented, "Participating in the development of such a high-performance model was an extremely valuable experience for Dallara Engineering. For me personally, it felt like revisiting my old stomping grounds in a way."

This circuit-only model already made its track debut in development tests last month, and data collection by Automobili Lamborghini's dedicated test drivers has begun. Its eagerly awaited race debut is scheduled for the 2015 season of "Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo" the Lamborghini one-make race series.
