A Classic Mini Recreated with LEGO
LEGO® is releasing a limited-edition kit that faithfully recreates the Classic Mini, from its exterior to its interior, engine, and trunk.

An Old Mini Recreated in Meticulous Detail
LEGO bricks captivate fans worldwide, from children to adults. Beyond their use as educational toys for toddlers, they have recently gained support from a wide range of demographics with offerings like the computer-controlled, high-tech "MINDSTORMS" and the intricately detailed architectural series, "LEGO® Architecture."
When completed, the model measures 25cm long, 14cm wide, and 11cm high. Beneath the liftable bonnet, a four-cylinder engine "block" is transversely mounted, just like in the real car.
The body color is British Racing Green, a quintessential shade for the Classic Mini, contrasted by a white roof. White stripes adorn the bonnet, and the mirror caps are also white.
This kit faithfully reproduces a later model of the Classic Mini. It features additional headlights in front of the signature hexagonal grille, and the wheels, bumpers, door hinges, and front and rear lights are exact replicas of the original design. The rear sides bear the 40th-anniversary logo, used between August 1997 and July 1998.
The beige seats feature a checked pattern on the backrests and can be folded down, along with the headrests. The steering wheel, gearshift lever, and handbrake handle are also movable. The roof can be removed, allowing access to the interior for placing passengers, rather than using the doors.
The rear luggage compartment contains a picnic set, wrapped in a checked blanket. The right-hand drive configuration and yellow number plate further emphasize its British car identity.
According to BMW, while the LEGO Classic Mini is recommended for ages 16 and up, it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, as it requires no special tools or driving license to build an original Mini.
The LEGO Creator Expert Classic Mini, composed of 1,077 pieces, will be exclusively available on shop.lego.com starting August 1, 2014. Unfortunately, Japan is not included in the site's shipping destinations, and domestic sales have not yet been announced.
