The New MINI Entry Model, MINI ONE, Arrives

The new MINI, which debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2013, now welcomes its entry-level model, the MINI ONE. Featuring a newly developed turbo engine, it achieves a fuel efficiency of 20.2 km/l, a roughly 10 percent improvement over the previous generation. Prices start from 2.26 million yen.

A New Companion Has Arrived

BMW announced in November last year thatWorld Premieremarked its first full model change in seven years.New MINIlineup, adding the entry-level MINI ONE. Sales commence today.

The ONE, added to the lineup this time, is designed to make the MINI experience more accessible as an entry model. It is powered by a newly developed, high-efficiency 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine. Combined with optimized aerodynamics, its fuel efficiency is approximately 10 percent better than the previous generation, achieving 20.2 km/l (for MT models).

It is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. According to BMW, the manual transmission model meets the "FY2015 Fuel Economy Standards" and "2005 Emission Standards (75% Reduction Level, ★★★★ Low Emission Vehicle)", qualifying it for eco-car tax reductions. An estimated 60% reduction in acquisition tax and 50% reduction in weight tax is expected.

The equipment is also comprehensive, including a USB audio interface, 15-inch wheels with full wheel covers, and Servotronic as standard. Furthermore, a range of advanced features are available, such as a highly visible and user-friendly navigation system, front collision warning, collision mitigation braking, active cruise control, and a head-up display.

The price, including consumption tax, is 2.26 million yen for the 6-speed manual and 2.40 million yen for the 6-speed automatic. With the earlier Cooper and Cooper S, and now the ONE, the choices for the new MINI have expanded once again.
