A Boy and His Father Begin Restoring a Worn Maserati 300S, Dreaming of the Day It Will Race Again
In the picture book 'Little Red Racing Car,' illustrated by Dwight Knowlton, a boy and his father discover a dilapidated Maserati 300S in an old barn. They embark on its restoration, dreaming of the day it will race again, forging a bond through the process. The story, centered around a celebrated car from Maserati's illustrious history that competed at Le Mans and elsewhere in the 1950s, is brought to life in its Japanese edition through the joint translation of motor journalist Peter Lyon and his wife, Mami Kikumachi-Lyon.
The Japanese edition features further original editing by the couple, making it even more accessible and engaging for a Japanese audience. It includes pages detailing Maserati's 100-year history and a paper diorama of the garage where the boy and his father worked on the car, alongside the Maserati 300S, creating a heartwarming work that appeals to both children and adults.
The Japanese edition includes additional pages detailing Maserati's 100-year history, part of the couple's original editing to enhance clarity and readability for a Japanese audience. Furthermore, an intricate paper diorama of 'the garage where the boy and his father worked on the car, alongside the Maserati 300S,' supervised by Yo Mizoguchi, known for his automotive illustrations, models, and papercraft, is also included, making it a heartwarming work enjoyable for both children and adults.
Born from the philosophy of 'creating a space where parents and children can naturally discuss automobiles,' this picture book deeply impressed Maserati S.p.A., leading to its official certification as a Maserati 100th Anniversary product.
