Maserati's Four-Door Sedan Offensive

Maserati Japan announced on May 9th the launch of a new standard grade for its mid-size sports sedan, the Ghibli.Ghibli S and Ghibli S Q4, which went on pre-sale last Novembercompleting the lineup to three grades.

The powertrain is a newly designed V6 engine, produced at Ferrari's Maranello factory, the same as in the Ghibli S. While its absolute power is less than the higher grades, it retains Maserati's signature agility with a maximum output of 243kW (300ps), 500Nm of torque, and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.6 seconds.

The transmission is an 8-speed automatic co-developed with ZF, featuring five shift modes: "Auto Normal," "Auto Sport," "Manual Normal," "Manual Sport," and "I.C.E." To ensure optimal traction, the new Ghibli is equipped as standard with an LSD (limited-slip differential), a first for this segment.

The body structure maintains a 50:50 weight distribution, with a double-wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear suspension. This setup achieves exceptionally sporty handling despite being a sedan.

In terms of crash safety, it achieved a five-star rating in Euro NCAP tests, earning the highest possible score of 86 out of 100 points. Furthermore, it was recognized as a "Top Safety Pick" in collision safety analysis and evaluation by the US IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), demonstrating high safety performance.

The newly added Ghibli is priced at 8.34 million yen. The already available Ghibli S is 9.67 million yen, and the all-wheel-drive Ghibli S Q4 is 10.39 million yen (all prices include tax).

This year marks Maserati's centenary. Following the release of the "Centennial Edition" commemorative models unveiled in New York and Beijing, memorial events are scheduled in Japan in July and in Italy in September. It promises to be an unmissable year for Maserati enthusiasts.

Additionally, from Friday, May 9th to Sunday, May 11th, an early exhibition of the three Ghibli models, including the latest, will be held at the "Midtown Atrium" (Akasaka, Minato-ku) within Tokyo Midtown. Those in the vicinity are encouraged to visit.
