A Bridge Connecting to Maserati's Future

Maserati unveiled the "Alfieri" concept car at the Geneva show.

This is a two-door coupe sports car with a 2+2 seating layout. It is powered by a front-mounted 4.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine from Maranello, driving the rear wheels through a transaxle layout.

For any Maserati fan who has heard this much, you might be tempted to ask, "How is this different from the "GranTurismo"?" However, Maserati's explanation is that by shortening the wheelbase by 240mm, they have created a more agile sports car than the GranTurismo.

However, what is more important about the Alfieri is not its mechanics, but its design. Lorenzo Ramaciotti, who oversees design for the entire Fiat Group, stated, "The Alfieri serves as a bridge connecting Maserati's glorious 100-year history with the future it will carve out.

Frankly, I cannot say that this car will be put into production within the next two years, but a model very similar to this will undoubtedly appear." He confirmed that the Alfieri is a study model that suggests the future direction of Maserati design.

Like the Muscles of a Predator

Perhaps the most striking aspect of the exterior design is its front section. WhileQuattroporteandGhiblipresented a sharp, defined side profile, the front fascia of the Alfieri has been reborn with a sharper form, appearing as if the streamlined front tip has been cut off at the grille.Maseratihad previously presented a sharp, defined side profile, but the front fascia of the Alfieri has been reborn with a sharper form, appearing as if the streamlined front tip has been cut off at the grille.

Consequently, the headlights also adopt a design that is thin and elongated. Meanwhile, on the body side, the powerfully bulging rear fenders, reminiscent of a predator's muscles, and the thin, narrow taillights at the rear are eye-catching.

The Alfieri, a model commemorating Maserati's 100th anniversary, draws inspiration from classic Maseratis such as the 1954 "A6 GCS-53." Incidentally, the "A" in A6 GCS-53 stands for "Alfieri," the given name of the third Maserati brother.

However, the third brother Alfieri passed away just a few months after birth, so his parents gave the same name, Alfieri, to their fourth son. It was this fourth son, also named Alfieri, who inherited the will of his elder brother Carlo, who had also died young, and played a central role in establishing the automobile manufacturer with the Maserati brothers. There could be no more fitting name for a commemorative model celebrating Maserati's 100th anniversary.

At the Geneva show, Maserati also announced the "Quattroporte Ermenegildo Zegna Limited Edition," a special collaboration with the fashion brand Ermenegildo Zegna. This model features custom body colors, trims, and materials, and only 100 units will be sold worldwide.
