Retains the Strengths of the New Golf, with Enhanced Utility Through Increased Cargo Space
The 7th generation "Golf," which was the first imported car to win the "Japan Car of the Year" in 2013.GolfThe newly announced "Golf Variant" also inherits the safety and environmental performance, and driving dynamics that were highly acclaimed in awards such as European Car of the Year.
Two grades are available for the domestic market: "TSI Comfortline" and "TSI Highline." The Comfortline is powered by a 1.2-liter turbo engine delivering a maximum output of 77kW (105ps) at 4,500-5,500rpm and a maximum torque of 175Nm (17.8kgm) at 1,400-4,000rpm. The higher-spec Highline is equipped with a 1.4-liter turbo engine, boasting a maximum output of 103kW (140ps) at 4,500-6,000rpm and a maximum torque of 250Nm (25.5kgm) at 1,500-3,500rpm.
Furthermore, it adopts the "MQB" platform for transversely mounted engines, a new generation platform being introduced across the Volkswagen Group, following the Golf. This contributes to engine efficiency and a weight reduction of up to 50kg. Additionally, the luggage space has been expanded by 20% compared to the previous model, achieving a class-leading 605 liters.
This MQB also contributes to high fuel efficiency. Combined with the highly efficient engine and 7-speed DSG transmission, fuel economy has been improved to 21.0km/ℓ for the Comfortline and 19.5km/ℓ for the Highline.
In terms of safety, in addition to basic safety equipment such as ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESP), and nine airbags, it comes standard with an emergency braking system that operates below 30km/h. Furthermore, the Highline features Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with traffic jam assist for automatic following and a Lane Assist system as extensions of the cruise control function.
The exterior emphasizes a low and wide proportion, with the body width increased by 15mm and the height reduced by 45mm. This enhances its sporty impression. Both grades are available in 8 body colors.
The price is 2,695,000 yen for the Comfortline and 3,225,000 yen for the Highline.
