Peugeot Unveils New Crossover

Peugeot has unveiled the 4008, a compact SUV model that shares its platform with the Citroën C4 Aircross.

Based on the Mitsubishi RVR

The 4007, previously sold by Peugeot as an SUV, was based on the Mitsubishi Outlander and sold under the name C-Crosser within the PSA Group, alongside Citroën. However, with the growing global demand for crossover and SUV vehicles, the 4008 has been introduced as a compact SUV to fill a gap in the market not covered by the 4007 or 3008.

The newly announced 4008 is based on the Mitsubishi RVR. However, compared to the 4007, which was based on the Outlander, the design has been refined to the point where the original model is barely recognizable.

This is largely due to the fact that only the front and rear doors are shared with the base model. The front fascia adopts Peugeot's latest design language, first seen on the 508.

Four engine options will be available: two gasoline and two diesel. In the European market, only the 1.6-liter turbodiesel unit, producing a maximum output of 82 kW (112 hp) and peak torque of 270-280 Nm, and the 2.0-liter turbodiesel unit, delivering 110 kW (150 hp) and 300 Nm of torque, will be sold. Both will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In other regions, the lineup will be tailored to suit local market needs and characteristics. The gasoline engines include a 1.6-liter producing 85 kW (116 hp) and 152 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual, and a 2.0-liter engine with 113 kW (150 hp) and 198 Nm of torque, available with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT.

Both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations will be offered. However, in Europe and other select regions, only the four-wheel drive variant will be released.

With dimensions of 4,340mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,630mm in height, it is 300mm shorter than the 4007, making it a more practical size according to Peugeot.

There has been no announcement regarding its introduction to Japan at this time.
