The Beetle Turbo Goes on Sale

The Beetle's "GTI"

The Beetle, which went on sale in Japan in April 2012,was only available with a 1.2-liter TSI engine producing 105ps. Now, the sporty "The Beetle Turbo," powered by a 2-liter TSI engine, has been added to the lineup.

This engine delivers a maximum output of 211ps and a peak torque of 280Nm, matching the performance of the previous Golf GTI. It is paired with a 6-speed DSG transmission.

In addition to the engine, the exterior features special equipment such as large 235/45 tires on 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, a large rear spoiler, and a diffuser.

The interior boasts sports seats and an aluminum-look pedal cluster. Ambient lighting is installed below the door trims to enhance the nighttime driving experience. Functionally, a 712SDCW navigation system is standard. Furthermore, selecting the optional Coolster package adds a triple-meter gauge set including oil temperature, stopwatch, and boost gauge on the dashboard, along with bi-xenon headlights and dark tinted glass on the rear left and right. An electric panoramic sliding roof and leather seats are also available as options.

The body colors include the exclusive Leaf Blue Metallic, for a total of seven colors. The price is 3.48 million yen.
