A Model to Fill the Gap Between Existing Grades
“Polo BlueGTPolo BlueGT," which made its world premiere at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, is equipped with the cylinder deactivation system "Active Cylinder Management (ACT)." Achieving 21.3 km/L in the JC08 mode, it is the most fuel-efficient Polo available in Japan, while also positioned as the sportiest grade after the "Polo GTI".
The engine is a 1.4-liter TSI with cylinder deactivation, producing a maximum output of 103 kW (140 ps). The maximum torque of 250 Nm, available from just 1,500 rpm, is identical to the Polo GTI (250 Nm / 2,000-4,500 rpm), clearly indicating that this is not a model that compromises performance for the sake of economy. This engine is the same one found in the new "Golf TSI Highline".
The cylinder deactivation function, its most notable feature, operates when the engine load is low, such as during constant-speed driving on flat roads, to reduce fuel consumption. The switching between deactivated and active states is completed in a mere fraction of a camshaft rotation, approximately 13-36 milliseconds.
As the "GT" in its name suggests, its character is set to be sporty. Visually, it features a rear spoiler, a bumper with a diffuser, dual exhaust pipes, sports suspension that lowers the ride height by 15mm, and 17-inch alloy wheels as standard. The interior also boasts sporty elements such as exclusive Alcantara and fabric sport seats, and a dedicated GT-emblazoned leather three-spoke steering wheel.
Functionally, it is equipped with the electronic differential lock "XDS" and cruise control, the latter being a first for the Polo family.
Four exterior colors are available, including the exclusive Blue Silk Metallic. The price in Japan is 2.63 million yen. It is eligible for eco-car tax reductions (75% reduction).
