A Supercar Packed with Porsche's Motorsport Technology
The 918 Spyder's engine is a 4.6-liter V8, based on the racing car engine from the Le Mans 24 Hours race, the "RS Spyder," boasting a maximum output of 447kW (608ps). This is augmented by a hybrid system that adds an electric motor to the rear wheels, and a separate electric motor independently driving the front wheels, resulting in all-wheel drive.
Combined, the gasoline engine and electric motors produce a maximum system output of 652kW (887ps), achieving 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 345km/h, performance befitting the title of supercar.
On the other hand, it achieves remarkable fuel efficiency of just 3L/100km (approximately 33.3km/L), and with a full charge, it can travel 16-32km in pure EV mode with zero emissions.
The motor's power source is a 6.8kWh lithium-ion battery with a dedicated water-cooled circuit. This battery can be fully charged in 4 hours using the standard Porsche Universal Charger with a 230V commercial power supply in Germany, or in just 25 minutes with the optional Porsche Speed Charging Station.
As the name "Spyder" suggests, the roof is divided into two panels and is removable. The removed roof panels are designed to be stored in the front luggage compartment.
Naturally, it is equipped with numerous technologies fed back from motorsport activities, such as the "Porsche Active Suspension Management system (PASM)," the rear-wheel steering function "Rear Axle Steer," and the "Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA)" which automatically adjusts downforce in three stages.
